Reduce clot formation by inhibiting coagulation cascade or platelet aggregation.
Environmental footprint
Increased bleeding risk — falls and injuries matter more. Drug and food interactions (warfarin). Essential when indicated; not optional without clinical discussion.
What the evidence shows
Prevent stroke in atrial fibrillation. Prevent stent thrombosis. Bleeding risk is the primary tradeoff. Warfarin requires INR monitoring; DOACs have fewer food interactions.
